Why are my Facebook ads getting rejected?

Advertising on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram can help your company thrive. With these platforms, you can extend the reach of your online audience, boost website traffic and boost online sales. Many Meta ads get rejected, which may be very annoying. But there’s no reason to fret; even the most seasoned marketers face the challenge of ad rejection.

So, how do you keep this from happening? We’ve put together some pointers to help you better understand the different reasons an ad could get rejected for.

To make sure ads on Meta follow their guidelines, the company has a a review process in place before they are published. While automated technology does the bulk of the work, Meta does employ human reviewers to evaluate ads before they go live as well. Usually, Facebook will determine if the ad follows its standards within a day, although this time frame can vary from time to time. Ads are reviewed both before and after a campaign goes live, with the former sometimes leading to the rejection of ads that had previously been accepted.

1. Ad standards

The first thing you need to check is if your ad violates the advertising standards. This is an extensive list that spans across dozens of pages, and some might seem a little vague at first glance. However, it is good practice that you read through the documentation before submitting your ad for approval. If your Facebook ad gets disapproved, you’ll get a notification referencing which policy you violated, with a link to that policy, and then often a recommendation on how to fix it.

In short, this means that you need to check the rules again to see if your ad is in violation. If you can fix it by changing a small aspect of your ad, it’s great! If not, it might be time to go back to the drawing board.

2. My ads were approved at first but rejected after they went live

This happens from time to time. According to Facebook documentation, “Previously approved ads can be selected for another review for a number of reasons, including if people hide, block, report or otherwise provide negative feedback about an ad, all of which could help indicate that we missed something during the review process.” This suggests that the reception to your ad carries a lot of weight.

As described in the documentation, Facebook relies primarily on automatic systems to review ads that run on their platforms to ensure they comply with the guidelines, they also have human reviewers who enhance and train the automated review process, as well as manually review ads in some situations. If this happens to you, you’ll need to change some aspects of your ad.

3. What do I do if my ad gets rejected?

No need to panic if your ad is rejected. First and foremost, check your inbox for an email from Meta. This email will tell you why your ad was rejected. You can also check your Account Quality page, which serves as a central location for all your ad rejections and account restrictions, as well as a place to request reviews after you edit your ad.

When an ad is rejected for violating Meta’s Advertising Policies, you may be able to make changes to it in Ads Manager or submit a brand new one. You should keep in mind that not all forms of advertising allow for changes to be made. If that’s the case, you’ll need to create a new ad, which will be reviewed in the same way as before. This might take a little more time than the initial review, as Meta will rely on human reviewers for this step rather than automation.

In short, ads get rejected all the time, and there is absolutely no need to be alarmed. Meta is very strict about its guidelines, and ads need to follow the extensive list of rules we mentioned earlier. Be sure to double-check everything before submitting your new ad, and you should have no problems promoting your product on Meta’s multiple platforms.
